QLD:Gold Coast V8s give way to light rail

The Gold Coast's V8 motor race circuit has been shortened to allow the one-billion-dollar
Gold Coast Rapid Transit system to follow its preferred route.

Premier ANNA BLIGH says the Armor All Gold Coast 600 will be slashed from 4.5 kilometres
to just under three .. so the light rail can be built along Surfers Paradise Boulevard
where it'll cost 15 million dollars less and attract more customers.

Stage One of the 13-kilometre corridor linking Southport to Broadbeach is scheduled
to start running in 2014.
