INDIAN TRIBES MAY GET BODY OF SHOT EAGLE.(Local)

The body of a bald eagle shot last month at Stewart International Airport may find a home among Indian tribes who use parts of the endangered birds in religious ceremonies.

James Kniffen, who runs the national Eagle Depository for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Ashland, Ore., said he expects investigators looking into the shooting to turn over the eagle's body to him.

The eagle was shot by a guard at the airport in Newburgh who said he thought it was a turkey vulture. The guard said he shot the bird because he feared it would interfere with airplanes.
